The Wellington Lounge in Intercontinental London Park Lane is the place to indulge in afternoon tea. The stunning lounge is set on the ground floor with a view of London’s Wellington Arch.

The Christmas Afternoon Tea was created in collaboration with master chocolatier Paul A. Young. The limited edition Afternoon Tea combines classic festive ingredients, evocative flavours, and Paul’s mastery to present a traditional Christmas Day delivered in an unexpected way.
We started with the signature tea, which was calming and tranquil and then we also had the Moet served which was a perfect starter to this dining experience. Special favourites of mine was the venison and winter vegetable puff and the smoked salmon and crayfish sandwich with prawns.

We had the lovely puff and sandwiches, the next serving were the scones which were absolutely delicious. We had two options from the classic and speculaas scones which were served with orange curd and strawberry jam.

I was surprised to know that there was another serving and this time it was a huge plate of chocolate and pastry decadence. We were told that it was all edible which was surprising as it looked so ornate, but once I opened up the top of the dark chocolate cocoa pod, there were more treats inside which included a tender, chocolate filling. The chocolate alchemy included smoked crackling embers tart, a ginger bread spiced pastry tartlet filled with single origin 72% Venezuelan chocolate ganache, subtly reminiscent of an open fire. The savoury selection features all the festive hallmarks in bite size packages. Together with the gingerbread spiced pastry and white chocolate water ganache, we were feeling that this was a real special christmas treat.

Service was excellent and the waiters really made it feel a treat, by explaining the menu to us and each serving coming out in stages. I would love another visit for a christmas afternoon tea, just for the scones alone. Excellent service in comfortable surroundings, delicious sandwiches, scones and cakes which were beautifully presented. Succulent and so filling, we felt like we had a meal and this was more than enough for lunchtime dining. I would highly recommend.

Ooh – a bit of Christmas indulgence!

What a nice hotel – so beautifully decorated.

The chocolate dish looks rich and this is coming from someone who loves chocolate.
